Monterey Bay League realignments for the 2015 Spring sports season were announced July 16 with very few shifts for Gilroy-area teams.

The 2014 prep football season is less than two months away and the Gilroy-area high schools are gearing up.

Practice for Gilroy High's freshman football team kicks off today at 4 p.m. and runs until 6:30 p.m. It will continue Thursday and Friday and continues June 23-27 at the same time. Practice is open to interested incoming GHS freshman.

For Nikko Villarreal and Emma Leach, the halls of Gilroy High School will always be home.

GILROY—“We’re on a mission this year,” Gilroy coach Brian Boyd said while looking out at the field full of players practicing during spring football session. “We’ve headed in the right direction, we’re going up and that’s the plan. We just want to get to the playoffs. We don’t care what our record is, we just want to get to the playoffs.”

GILROY—With all the talent coming out of Gilroy High this year, it was difficult for its athletic department to chose just one male and one female Senior Athlete of the Year—so the Mustangs chose two.

Lauren Castro, Alexis Conlon and Brook Loesch’s names are seen repeatedly as stat leaders for their respective teams. On May 31, the trio made it onto another list—the Monterey Bay League-Gabilan Division First Team.

Justin Hale, Sam Aptekar, Jimmy Lemberger and Makaio Duyao were the go-to guys for their respective teams all season and Wednesday their value was recognized with All-League honors.
