GILROY—Historically, moving up to the tougher division has been just that for teams—tough. But the Christopher track team didn’t shy away from the challenge, it rose to meet it.

An eight-run fourth inning was the nail in the coffin for Gilroy in its crosstown bout with Christopher. 

GILROY—The last time Christopher and Gilroy met, it took just one big inning to put the game. This time, it was Gilroy’s turn.

Seaside was within one run of Christopher heading into the top of the fourth, trailing 5-4, but then the Cougars pounced into action.

When Gilroy’s Kimberly Davis and San Benito’s Corey Latham woke up Saturday morning, the two seniors couldn’t help but think about the possibility that they would be swimming in their final individual events of their high school career.

Christopher already trailed 3-0 heading into the final half inning at Leigh Saturday—but the hosts weren't done.

Christopher racked up 12 hits en route to an 8-3 win over Monte Vista Christian Tuesday at home. The win was its fifth straight. 

SALINAS — Christopher entered Monday’s Monterey Bay League Finals with a goal to shoot 425 as a team. The Cougars did one better and shot a 424.

Despite scoring three late runs, the Christopher softball team held off Salinas and picked up a much needed league win Thursday.

GILROY — Though Tuesday was Gilroy coach Brian Boyd’s birthday, the cake and balloons in the school’s library weren’t for him. He did, however, receive one very special present in the form of his son Brandon signing with Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore. on an academic scholarship where he will play football next season.
