Glory Baseball will host its second round of spring workouts to fill roster spots for its 18U summer/fall travel team at 9 a.m. May 24 at Gilroy High School. 

Christopher’s Bella Marquez did her job in the cage and then got to test her skills on offense — and she came out firing.

GILROY — The slow starts that plagued Christopher all season seem to be a thing of the past.

The Gavilan softball team snapped an 11-game losing streak and went 1-3 at the March Madness Tournament held Saturday and Sunday in Fremont. 

GILROY—When searching for a place to continue her education, it looked as if Priscilla Orona would have to choose between her major—nursing—and playing softball. But after a lot of research and deliberation she found a way to do both.

It was smooth sailing for Gavilan Wednesday as the team cruised to its fifth straight victory. The Rams shutdown the visiting Skyline 25-14, 25-19, 25-19 at home to maintain a perfect 5-0 conference record and improve to 15-6 overall on the season.  Lilly Martinez had a career high 10 kills in the game to lead the team. Jessica Stofer and Tasmin Apple each had seven kills a piece while Savanna Hartman added six and Ryan Asp and Andreinna Castaneda each had five.  It was business as usual for Sabina Gerard who dished out 32 assists before handing over things over to Lissette Pedraza who finished the match with four of her own. Karina Daniels led Gavilan on defense by picking up 16 digs. Daisy Valladares had 10 and Gerard added nine. The trio in addition to Hartman each had two aces in the game.  Gavilan will be back on the court at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Canada College in Redwood City. 

Gavilan College women’s basketball coach Erik Nelson had to remind himself to breathe during the final minutes Tuesday against West Hills College.

Maddy Cox and Maggie Brinkman led Gilroy to a fourth quarter comeback-win over Westmoor 45-41 in the second round of CCS playoffs.
