A smooth sweep of Skyline College on Sophomore Night on Friday in Gilroy secured at least a tie for first place in the Coast Conference as well as assured the Gavilan College women's volleyball team of a fourth consecutive berth into the Northern California Regional playoffs.

It was a bittersweet ending for a team that had accomplished so much in its early history. But in its postseason debut, No. 8 Christopher (12-1-2) lost 3-0 to No. 9 Leigh (8-6-1) Thursday evening in the first round of the Central Coast Section playoffs.

Gilroy High will play Presentation in the CCS quarterfinals at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday at Lynbrook High School.

The Gavilan College women’s volleyball team made it six straight Coast Conference South victories Wednesday night, cruising past West Valley 25-22, 25-16, 25-16 in Gilroy.

It seems like an eternity since the Gavilan College men's soccer team was humbled 4-1 by the state's top-ranked squad in City College of San Francisco.

SALINAS - In a matchup with first place on the line, Hartnell came away with a 28-3 Coast Conference victory over the Gavilan College Rams at The Pit on the campus of Salinas High School on Saturday night.
