A smooth sweep of Skyline College on Sophomore Night on Friday in Gilroy secured at least a tie for first place in the Coast Conference as well as assured the Gavilan College women’s volleyball team of a fourth consecutive berth into the Northern California Regional playoffs.

The Rams, who are now 8-1 in conference and can clinch the title in their season finale Tuesday, defeated Skyline handily 25-16, 25-8, 25-13.

Should the Rams win Tuesday at Chabot, it would be the program’s first outright conference championship. They shared their last title in 2009 with Cabrillo.

Sophomores Kayce Skocko, Xitlalli Bobadilla and Kayondra Hood, along with graduating freshman Vanessa Wilkins and Jessica Stofer, were honored before the match.

Bobadilla made the most of her final regular season home match, leading the team with 10 kills and chipping in 11 digs and one ace.

Freshman Andreinna Castaneda also added 10 kills and totaled three blocks. Sabina Gerard had another strong night, putting up 42 assists and delivering four aces.

Gavilan also tied its program record of 17 wins, knowing it can set a new mark Tuesday. First serve is slated for 6:30 p.m. in Hayward.
