GILROY—About 300 students, faculty and staff members took part in the St. Mary School’s Seventh Annual Walk-a-Thon and raised $20,454.
Since its inception, the Walk-a-Thon has raised more than $300,000 for the Roman Catholic school while boosting awareness of the importance of physical fitness and good nutrition, according to Kelly Barbazette, development coordinator at St. Mary.
At the Sept. 18, event, students and faculty walked a total of 8,050 laps or 765 miles, according to Barbazette, who added there still is time to sponsor a student, through PayPal atwww.stmarywalkathon.com.
School officials say donors should include the first and last names of the student they wish to sponsor so the child will receive credit.
All pledges and monies collected must be turned in to the school office by 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 28.
