St. Mary School Eighth Graders deliver food to St. Joseph's Family Center in support of the center's Holiday Collection.

Following more than a decade long tradition, students at St. Mary School in Gilroy collected canned food items and donations this month for St. Joseph’s Family Center’s Holiday Collection.
The food drive was held from November 4 through November 21. Students brought in non-perishable single-serve food items, stuffing mix, packaged dessert mixes, canned cranberry sauce, potatoes, canned yams and fruit, new adult socks, salt and fresh fruit. Additionally, students are bringing at least $2 to go towards the purchase of a ham or turkey.
When all the food was delivered to St. Joseph’s Center and the money was counted 17 days after the collection began, it was estimated that students and their families brought in more than eight large grocery carts overflowing with food and $654.86. In keeping with the school’s theme this year, St. Mary School students continue to “Be the Change” through serving their local community.
