Dear Editor,

The old St. Mary’s Cemetary located behind Gurries Drive should be an embarrassment to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. It is overgrown with dry weeds as high as three feet in places. People have cut holes in the fence and buried their family dogs.

I called the St. Mary’s Church and was told that it was being cared for. I told the office person that the graveyard is definitely not being cared for and needs to be cleaned up. Not only is it horrible to think that this graveyard is allowed to get into this condition but it is a fire hazard.

Along with the over growth of weeds, people drive down the alley and throw trash and it is accumulating along the fences. It is really an eyesore. This graveyard was taken care of beautifully for years before but is now allowed to deteriorate. Just thought some of the families of Gilroy would be interested in knowing how their family members resting place is being cared for.
