Gilroy – The Gilroy Mustangs rebounded from a frustrating 3-2 loss to Palma Tuesday to beat North Salinas 11-0 Wednesday.
With the win, the Mustangs improved to 4-1 in TCAL and 10-6 overall.
Gilroy scored seven of its 11 runs in the second inning of the game, which was called after the sixth inning because of the 10-run slaughter rule. The Mustangs scattered 10 hits that inning, including a double from right fielder Joe Cano.
In his fourth start of the season, Carlos Garcia picked up the win and showed good ball control, striking out six and walking none in five innings.
“He did a good job,” said coach Clint Wheeler. “I think he only gave up two hits.”
Armando Franco closed out the game in the sixth inning.
The Mustangs play North Salinas in the second game of their home-and-away series on Friday at Gilroy High. They host current league leader Live Oak on April 12.
