Steven Andrew Chargin
Steven Andrew Chargin, age 27, of Gilroy and formerly of San Jose, died suddenly in San Jose on Friday, May 2, 2003.
He was born March 18, 1976, in Santa Clara. Steven loved his family, playing guitar, classic rock music and pets of all kinds.
He is survived by his parents Mladen and Doris Chargin of Gilroy; brother Mark of Gilroy; and his sister Susan Rock and husband Peter of Walnut Creek. He is also survived by his beloved grandparents Nikola and Biserka Chargin of Gilroy; uncle Nick Chargin of San Jose; uncle Anthony and aunt Carol Chargin of Kingston, Tenn.; uncle David Roberts of Maryland; aunt Cheryl of Charlotte, N.C.; and aunt Patricia Roberts of Jacksonville, Ark. He is also survived by many cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Lara Chargin.
Steven was raised in San Jose and graduated from St. Lawrence Academy in Santa Clara.
Pall bearers will be Mark Chargin, Nick Chargin, Peter Rock, Mike Ospring, and Rick Habenicht. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Habing Family Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 1 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Gilroy. After the Mass, the burial service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilroy. Local arrangements by Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. Donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Family Center in Gilroy or Second Harvest Food Bank in San Jose.

Harold J. Packard, passed away in San Jose on May 3, 2003, following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, June R. Packard, of Gilroy; his daughter and her husband, Karen and Don Christopher of Gilroy; daughter, Cindy Gallo of Gilroy; his son, Gary Packard of Napa; his son, Christopher Packard of Gilroy; and his daughter and her husband, Scherrie and Rick Taylor of Union City. He is the grandfather of Erica and David Romero, Vince and Jessalyn Rizzi, Kevin and Suzie Rizzi, Kim Gonzales, and Derrick Packard; the great grandfather of Dillon Romero, Eden Romero, Blake Romero and Tyler Rizzi. He is also survived by his sister, Maxine Nelson of Morgan Hill, his brother-in-law, Bill Hammonds of Morgan Hill and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Packard was born in San Francisco, California 84 years ago. He was raised in Los Gatos, graduated from Los Gatos High School and San Jose State University. He served in the United States Coast Guard (Merchant Marines) from 1941 to 1945. Hal was married in 1950 and moved to Gilroy in 1966. He worked at State Farm Insurance Company for 25 years as a claims adjuster. He spent many hours on his Ham Radio and WA6YJU says 73’s to all the members of the Garlic Valley Amateur Radio Club of Gilroy. Mr. Packard also enjoyed doing all the family shopping.
Private Family Graveside Service will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Gustine, under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. In lieu of flowers, family respectfully requests that those who wish make donations to their favorite charity in his memory.
Charles Cash
Charles ‘Chuck’ Cash passed away at Santa Teresa Hospital Friday, May 2, 2003, after a short illness. He was 60 years old.
He was the husband of 40 years to Ruth Cash of Gilroy.
Cash is survived by his daughters and their husbands: Lori and Laird McVicar of Gilroy, Tracey and Ted Wood of Mariposa, Kris and Todd Leonard of Santa Nella and Diane and Tim Wood of Gilroy. He was the grandfather of Charlie and Jessica Minyard of Gilroy, Scott and Erin McVicar of Gilroy, Laken and Zachary Leonard of Santa Nella, Michelle, Carissa and Teddy Wood all of Mariposa, Andrew and Melissa Wood of Gilroy; brother of Ramona Kalbaugh of Pennsylvania and Frederick Cash of Ohio; and best friend for 30 years to Don Sylva and Laurie Hickey of San Jose. He is also survived by two nieces and two nephews.
He was a native of Akron, Ohio. He was an Army veteran. He moved to Gilroy in 1971 from Akron and worked for SBC/Pacific Bell as a fleet manager mechanic for 30 years. He was a part-time tasting room representative at Fortino Winery in Gilroy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, camping and most of all spending time with his grandkids. He enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports locally.
He also enjoyed San Jose, Sharks, Nebraska Cornhusker’s and the San Francisco 49ers.
Visitation will be Tuesday 1 to 8 p.m. (family present 6 to 8 p.m.) at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. Funeral Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, Gilroy. Family would appreciate donations to the American Lung Association.
