Undefeated U9 girls kickers win Devil Mountain Tourney
DANVILLE – The unbeaten Orchard Valley Storm traveled to Danville to play four games in the Devil Mountain Jamboree. The U9 girls competitve squad swept all four games – not allowing a goal the entire tournament to preserve their 18-0-1 overall record in 2003.

Goalkeepers Rebekah Inouye and Megan Nebesnick saw only modest action as a result of strong play from fullbacks Sydney Barker, Tula Urban and Jada Williams.

The Storm won their opening game over the Big Dogs 1-0. The Storm scored early in the game when Colby Carson burst down the left side, then crossed the ball to Amber Thomas at the top of the box. Thomas blasted a shot over the goalie’s outstretched arms for the goal. Hailey Hamilton created a great opportunity for a second goal, but was denied by a strong Big Dog defense.

The Storm went on to beat the Earthquakes 4-0 by a pair of goals in each half. Janessa Garcia scored on a beautiful goal midway through the first half. Cobly Carson, Samantha Riolo and Taylor Slattery followed with goals of their own as the Storm pulled away to a comfortable win.

On Sunday morning, the Storm beat the Tornado 2-0. Storm mid-fielders dominated play and kept the ball in the Tornado end throughout. Carson scored to give the Storm the lead. Jada Williams scored later on a spectacular corner kick that found the far post of the Tornado goal for the final margin of victory.

The Storm completed the weekend sweep by beating the Sharks 2-0. Samantha Riolo scored on a nice cross by teammate Megan Nebesnick. Riolo then created havoc again by beating the defense and firing a hard shot that the Shark goalie knocked down. Carson punched in the rebound for her third goal of the weekend.
