U9 girls soccer squad wins Hot August Jamboree
MORGANA – Orchard Valley’s U9 girls team, the OV Storm, traveled north to Moraga the first weekend of August to play in the Hot August Jamboree.
The Storm swept all three games of the jamboree, including two victories over older u10 teams. Perfect goalkeeping from Rebekah Inouye and Megan Nebesnick and tenacious defense from fullbacks Tula Urban, Jada Williams and Sydney Barker were the keys to the weekend success for the Storm.
The Storm won their first game 1-0 over the U10 team from Castro Valley. The Storm’s left halfback Janessa Garcia dominated her side of the field while feeding the ball to her forward Colby Carson throughout the game.
Carson eventually scored the game winner late in the second half after beating two defenders and driving the ball past the Castro Valley keeper.
The Storm won their second game 7-0 over Lamorinda. Halfback Amber Thomas scored three goals in the first seven minutes of the game. Samantha Riolo, Hailey Hamilton, Colby Carson and Megan Nebesnick followed with goals of their own.
In their final game, the Storm found themselves battling a u10 team from San Ramon. A scoreless first half was highlighted by strong play from Storm halfbacks particularly Kaylana Mau and Taylor Slattery.
Storm forwards Riolo and Carson pressured San Ramon throughout the second half. The winning goal game late in the game when Slattery made a strong run down the right side and found Amber Thomas with a beautiful cross that Thomas punched in for the 1-0 game winner.
