One client likes her to warm cat food in the microwave before serving it.
“She read in a kitty magazine that it was the ultimate treat for your cats, so we heat the food for seven seconds in the microwave,” said Behlmer. Another client only feeds her dogs bones and raw food, including uncooked chicken.
At Country Groomers in Hollister, Michael Bayne likes to surprise groomers with requests for unusual cuts on BoBo, his family’s toy poodle.
Last year, he had Devon Smith, former owner of the shop, create a summer-inspired ensemble for the dog, shaving a jacket and shorts into the tiny dog’s fur.
“The family doesn’t like it, but if you can’t have fun with your pet, why have one?” asked Bayne. “This is a dog! It’s not my daughter going to the prom. It’s cheap thrills.
“I know the dog doesn’t care. It’s getting reactions from people that makes it worthwhile, and it gives people some respite in their day. They’ll go home and remember this funny little dog and he’ll grow out again.”
