Dear Editor,
Recently, the downtown has seen a tremendous amount of work being completed. Huge mounds of dirt are gone, the streets have been compacted and will be paved next week with the roads scheduled to be reopened Friday, Oct. 13.
In the last month I have attended the weekly Downtown Streetscape meetings at the Chamber of Commerce Board Room on Wednesdays at 9:30 am. At these meetings the Downtown Business Owners have the opportunity to get the current weekly construction schedule and to address any concerns/suggestions they have directly to city staff.
Each week after a problem or suggestion has been addressed to Golden Bay Construction or the city, they have either taken care of it by the next week or have a future date for when they can take care of it. I believe this has helped ease some of the Downtown Business owners concerns. The main concern now and before, is getting the public to come down and support them during these hard times.
There might not be the ideal parking space for customers but the services and dedicated merchants that believe in downtown are still there, all just a short walk away.
Please come to downtown one of these days and see how much has really been done, I think you will be surprised. Might I add it’s not too early
to do some early Christmas Shopping!
