CHS sophomore Carly McPolin, 16, is this week's Student of the Week.

Each month, the principals of Gilroy and Christopher high schools choose a total of four students (two from GHS and two from CHS) to spotlight. CHS sophomore Carly McPolin, 16, is the this week’s Student of the Week.

What inspires you?

Challenge inspires me. Whenever someone tells me “you can’t”, I’m determined to prove them wrong.

What is your favorite subject in school, and why?

English is my favorite subject because I enjoy the creative aspect of writing.

If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be?

If I could change one thing in the world it would be child abuse. Every kid deserves a home they feel safe in.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Someday, I’d like to go to Italy. I love Italian food.

Name one big challenge in your life so far:

Last year I was diagnosed with Protein S Deficiency. This is a blood disease that causes clots.Not only has it been a challenge for me personally, but an issue within the family. I’ve lost my grandpa and my uncle, two people who were very close to me.

What is your dream job?

I would like to be a physical therapist or work with disabled kids.

If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three things could you not live without?

1) I couldn’t live without my brothers, Cory and Christopher. They mean the world to me.

2) I wear my grandpa’s dog tags everyday. Whenever something has me down I hold them tight.

3) Root beer would be extremely hard to part with.

“The Outsiders”

Something that makes you smile:

Track is my passion. Speed has always been my thing. The faster the better. The track is my home and the girls’ 4×1 relay is my family.
