Jade Katen-Ynzunza, a 17-year-old senior at GHS, is this week’s “Student of the Week.”
What inspires you?
I try to draw inspiration from all things that I’ve experienced or come into contact with.
Favorite subject:
My favorite subject in school is any science course, but particularly Anatomy. It has always been an interest of mine, and what I plan to study for the rest of my life. Not only does it come easy to me but I also enjoy the hands-on aspects of it.
If you had the power to change one thing in the world:
If I had the power to change one thing in the world it would definitely be educating the masses, particularly in agriculture and the government.
If you could go anywhere:
I love traveling and seeing how other people live, so it’s very difficult to pick just one place I’d like to go. Although, I’d have to say I’d travel to Italy for its food, culture, and beauty.
One big challenge in your life right now:
The biggest challenge in my life right now, and almost always, is balancing my extracurricular, academics, and interests. My senior year has been particularly rough because I’ve also had to add college and scholarship applications to my workload.
Dream job:
My dream job would be a doctor of neurology that conducts studies on human decision-making processes.
Your three favorite things:
Food. My horse. Being outdoors.
Favorite book:
“Catcher In the Rye” by J.D. Salinger.
Plans post-high school
After high school I plan to attend a four-year university in the fall and hopefully achieve my long-term goal of becoming a doctor of neurology.
Something that makes you smile:
Yet another hard question for me to decide and unfortunately I’m unable to pick just one. Some of my favorite things that make me smile include: my grandparents, knock knock jokes, learning new things, fast horses, my best friends, good books, sun on my skin, and committing good deeds.
Top three songs on your iTunes or iPod:
“Dark Horse” by Katy Perry, “Next Girl” by The Black Keys, “Jackson” by Johnny and June Carter-Cash.
