About 1,000 parents, students and school district employees
participated in the revived Run for Fitness at the high school
Saturday.
About 9 a.m., children from kindergarten through grade 12 shot
off the starting line of the track in Gilroy High School’s
Garcia-Elder Complex and did at least one full lap – about .25
miles. The run was just one part of the physical fitness
celebration, which included a stretch led by high school
athletes.

About 9 a.m., children from kindergarten through grade 12 shot off the starting line of the track in Gilroy High School’s Garcia-Elder Complex and did at least one full lap – about .25 miles. The run was just one part of the physical fitness celebration, which included a stretch led by high school athletes.
The event was organized by Pat Vickroy, who teaches physical education with the Gilroy Unified School District. He revived the run, which had been an annual event but had been discontinued, with hopes that it would again be a yearly occurrence.
It’s essential children “understand the importance to staying physically active,” he said.
