Get an early start on your summer reading plans this year. Because of the upcoming move into our new library, the Morgan Hill Library is starting our annual summer reading club early this year. Over 1,300 residents participated in the program last year, and you won’t want to miss the fun. Adults, teens and children can sign up to participate, and be eligible for prizes at the end of the summer.

Here are the special programs we are planning for our kickoff on Saturday:

1pm: Mystic Magic with Brian Scott: Join in and be amazed by this fabulous showman and magician.

3pm: DNA criminologist: Come see what life is really like working on crime scenes, and free comic books all day!

Here are the additional programs we are planning for the month of May:

– May 12, 2pm: Feather, Fur and Scales. The Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center will bring live animals to demonstrate similarities and differences between mammals, birds and reptiles.

– May 15, 5pm: Teen duct tape program. Learn how to make cool things like flower pens and wallets.

– May 26, 2pm: Fingerprint workshop. Learn how to identify and take fingerprints, and solve a mystery.

More programs will be coming in our beautiful new library in August.

The last day we will be open in the current Morgan Hill Library building will be Saturday, June 9. Please join us from 10am to 6pm, share some light refreshments, say goodbye to this library that has served us so well for so many years, and check out all the books you will need for the summer. All materials you check out will not be due until after the new library opens. Grand opening of the new Morgan Hill Library will be July 21.

More details about our move and the opening of the new library will be in an upcoming column.

The Morgan Hill Library is open from 1-9pm Tuesday, 10am to 9pm Wednesday and Thursday, 10am to 6pm Friday and Saturday. You can reach us at (408) 779-3196 or www.santaclaracountylib.org.
