Girls’ Minors
Sunbirds 12, Riptide 10
Deanna Orosco and Lam each had two hits and scored three runs for the winning team against the Riptide April 26. Savannah Hanoum, Ali Robles and Kiana Camacho played outstanding on defense. Anna Gamboa pitched four strong innings with five strikeouts. Cydney Caradonna relieved Gamboa to close out the victory for the Sunbirds.
“I was extremely excited to see the girls come together and play like a team,” said Sunbirds coach Al Orosco. “It was Cydney’s first time ever pitching in a game. I was glad to see all of Cydney’s hard work pay off. She deserved it.”
Sunbirds 19, Bandits 8
In the Sunbirds’ second game of the week on Saturday, two bases-loaded hits got the Sunbirds going – one by Gamboa and the second by Rachel Gallegos. Everyone on the team scored at least one run. Defensively, Abby Kienle and Nicole Green did a good job behind the plate for the Sunbirds. Robles recorded several key outs at first base. Holly Lam went the distance for the victory. With nine strikeouts, she was able to keep the Bandit hitters off balance the entire game.
“In a battle for first place, the Sunbirds were able to come out victorious,” coach Al Orosco said. “In a crucial game, all 12 girls came to play, and it showed. Anna’s hit really got us pumped up, and we got on a roll.”
