South Valley Symphony announces its first Al Navaroli Young Musicians Competition. Established in memory of Al Navaroli, recent board president who died June 19.
The competition will seek to find and showcase talented young musicians in southern Santa Clara and San Benito counties. It is open to musicians aged 10 through 18 and all instruments (except piano) may apply. The first place winner will have the opportunity to perform as a soloist with South Valley Symphony during the orchestra’s 2008-2009 season.
Applicants must select a concerto written for their instrument and provide a prescreening recording of one movement of their piece along with a $30 application fee. A maximum of 15 applicants will be chosen as finalists for the actual competition which will be held on Nov. 15. The deadline for receiving applications is Oct. 31.
