Mustangs sit in second place with three matches remaining.
HOLLISTER – Backed by a pair of team-low 39s from Mustang teammates Matt Lofstrom and Ale Rodriguez, the Gilroy High boys golf team finished with a combined score of 161 at Ridgemark GC in Hollister.

The Mustangs were second behind only first-place Hollister (149 combined score) and ahead of third-place Salinas (164).

Rounding out the Gilroy line-up were senior Chad Brownfield (41); junior Thomas Hoshida (42); junior Ryan Dinsmore (45); and junior John Gurich (47).

“We beat Salinas and Palma, but lost to Live Oak so we still hang on to second place,” said head coach Eric Kuwada, whose squad will play host today to Palma and Salinas at Eagle Ridge GC. “It is crucial that we beat Palma to maintain second place. Only a half-point separates us.

The Mustangs host three more T-CAL matches at Eagle Ridge – including two matches with Palma and Hollister.

“The results of these matches will be key to what we will need to do at league finals,” Kuwada said. “I believe that league finals will determine the winner of the league and who goes on to CCS. And from the looks of things, it can be any five teams in the league.”
