I’m calling about the missing girl that was in the paper. I
guess she was found, and I’m glad she was found.
Take down those annoying signs
“I’m calling about the missing girl that was in the paper. I guess she was found, and I’m glad she was found. But maybe her family can go around town now and take her posters off of every single light pole and every single stop sign and every single PG&E pole that they plastered her picture on. Maybe they can go ahead and take those down now.”
& Red Phone:
Missing pets, missing people, garage sales, gun shows at the Cow Palace, earn money from home! … the list goes on, good caller. Perhaps by you calling attention to it, more people will be cognizant of taking down their signs.
It’s tough to walk students to school
“I was compelled to call about the complaints about waiting in line for children at school and living only three blocks away. That does sound ridiculous, but I feel for this parent if she has two children in two different schools and the bells ring within minutes of each other. There is no way to walk your child to school when you have to get to another school to pick up your second child. These school district bell schedules don’t jibe, and therefore you can’t have parents walking their kids to school as much as we’d like to.”
& Red Phone:
Good point, good caller. But synchronizing bell schedules doesn’t seem practical, either, particularly as the district grows and adds more and more schools. It’s a thorny problem that isn’t likely to go away any time soon.
A mosque is OK, but not on hill
“I’d like to say something about the Muslim building in San Martin. I believe what is bothering a lot of people is they don’t want to see a dome of rock on top of the only hill in South Valley. If they put it out in a corner here or there it might be different, but on top of the only hill is what is bothering people.”
& Red Phone:
That is an issue that can be addressed as the project moves through the planning process. Ultimately the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors will need to take such concerns into consideration when it votes on the project. From the language in letters to the editor sent to The Dispatch, good caller, there could be other reasons for objecting to the mosque. We would invite you to go to www.gilroydispatch.com, and do a search for “mosque” for some flavor of the objections.
One reason not to build a mosque
“I have lived overseas in Muslim countries and I want somebody to approach the Muslim community and ask them why they think they can build this massive mosque and we can’t even build a little tiny hut called a church in their country. We are not allowed to worship there, we can’t have Bibles, there’s nothing like a Christian bookstore, yet they run all over us here. That’s one reason you shouldn’t have your mosque out there.”
& Red Phone:
Well, Red Phone understand your position, but remember, this is the United States where we welcome everyone, unlike other countries.
