After 14-7 upset, both Men’s B teams atop league with 3-1
records
GILROY – Team Talamo threw the Men’s B League pennant chase into a two-team scramble Tuesday by upsetting Craig Avila Bail Bonds 14-7 at Christmas Hill Park.
Mike Pereira’s two-run single capped a six-run third inning for Team Talamo, the defending league champion.
Team Talamo’s effort left both clubs at 3-1 with two weeks left in the first half. Westwood Barbers opened the twinbill with a 13-8 nod over Salas Trucking, pushing both teams to 1-3 and third place.
Pereira’s two-run triple in the first inning opened the scoring. Craig Avila Bail Bonds countered with three runs in the first, aided by a two-run Richard Rodriquez single. Team Talamo took the lead for good in the second when Raul Bueno singled home two runs.
Pereira took game batting honors with four hits. Bobby Garcia and Jose Bueno each mustered three hits for Team Talamo, Ruben Ramirez, Steve Pacheco and Benjie Casarez the same amount for Craig Avila Bail Bonds.
Gabe Ponce provided a single and two doubles to lead Westwood Barbers past Salas Trucking.
Ponce doubled home one run in the fifth as Westwood snapped a 6-6 tie with four runs. Gino Martinez added three hits and scored three runs for the Barbers. Julian Rodriguez went 4-for-4 and Carlos Trevino lashed three singles for Salas Trucking.
Ellite Barbers and Hair Stylists rallied to defeat RMC Engineering 20-19 in a key Men’s D League game Tuesday at Gavilan Sports Park.
John Muro’s two-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning plated Jesus Romero with the deciding run.
The loss left RMC at 3-1 atop the seven-team league. Team HJ-FX is second at 3-2, with four teams are 2-2.
Larry Montez Jr. anchored the RMC offense with a 5-for-5 effort, including a two-run home run in a four-RBI night. Anthony Montez homered and went 4-for-5. Mario Trujillo followed with four singles.
Aaron Muro, Bryan Pelaiz and Greg Lucio each drilled four hits for the Barbers. Muro homered to lead off the Barber first inning.
Ellite Barbers trailed 19-17 after six, then pulled even when Pelaiz and Scott Farrell drove in markers in the seventh.
Tom Alexander hit a two-run triple as Team HJ-FX scored four runs in the top of the seventh to lock up a 15-11 victory over Dequin’s Auto Body.
Brett Faust hit a three-run homer in a 3-for-4 effort for Team HJ-FX. Andrew Bolinger went 3-for-3 and Duke Newton tripled twice for Dequin’s.
Manuel Gonzalez homered and Rich Altamirano went 3-for-4 as Family Affair topped Trevino Brothers Construction 9-0.
