Witnesses guided officers to the location of a 17-year-old suspected of robbing an ice cream vendor and a police dog cornered the teen after he continuously refused commands to stop, police said.

The incident began shortly after 6 p.m. July 17, when four males robbed the vendor in the area of La Sierra Way and Carmel Street. The four surrounded the vendor and began to punch him in the face and head. The vendor was told to give up his money and watch or they would “kill” him, GPD Sgt. Jim Gillio said.

After taking the vendor’s property, the four fled toward Wren Avenue and First Street.

Witnesses guided officers to the location of one of the suspects. A GPD officer and his K9 partner Cento located the teen, who at least twice ignored the officer’s order to stop. Cento was released and captured the teen in the area of Wren and Welburn avenues, Gillio said. The teen was arrested on suspicion of robbery and resisting arrest.
