A San Bruno teen sustained major injuries over the weekend after pulling a U-turn on Pacheco Pass Highway directly into oncoming traffic.

The 18-year-old driver of a 2008 Toyota Scion was airlifted from the scene of the accident on Pacheco Pass near Dunne Street Saturday afternoon. The teen pulled onto the shoulder of the road just east of Dunne Street and was facing east, police said. As a Dodge Ram approached from the east, the driver of the Scion “made an unsafe U-turn directly into the path” of the truck, police said.

The resulting collision caused both vehicles to travel across the westbound lanes of Pacheco Pass and come to a rest on the west shoulder of the road.

Cal Fire responded to the scene to extricate the teen, who was flown to San Jose Regional Hospital. Police did not make any arrests at the scene of the accident.
