GILROY – Bad weather will not delay the ongoing ramp improvement phase of the Highway 152 widening project, the Valley Transportation Authority says.
Work on the lanes from the Pacheco Pass Highway to U.S. 101 and the off-ramp of Pacheco Pass Highway/Tenth Street at southbound U.S. 101 in Gilroy are still scheduled to finish up this weekend, despite a Monday night electrical storm that kept work crews off the roadway. By next Monday, southbound U.S. 101 commuters will have a wider off-ramp, a wider roadway at the Gilman Road/Sixth Street overcrossing and an improved drainage system.
“We incorporate weather conditions into the schedule of work,” VTA Spokesperson Lupe Solis said Tuesday.
Since Monday, traffic has not been able to use the Pacheco Pass/Tenth Street off-ramp when exiting southbound U.S. 101 between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Between 8 p.m. and noon, variable lane closures have been used at the southbound U.S. 101 and Gilman Road/Sixth Street overcrossing to widen the roadway there.
Also since Monday, variable lane closures were done from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. at U.S. 101 and Highway 152 in order to construct the drainage system.
Solis said Tuesday morning that work crews may be kept home Tuesday night, too.
