Wandering GHS students on 10th Street are out of control

“After dealing with the high school situation – driving there for the last six years, and I have four more years to go – I’m tired. I have to gird my loins and prepare for battle every time I drive down 10th Street. I wonder if anybody has considered putting in those cute little crossing things like they have on First Street – the flashing lights and you press the button and what not and the kids can go across in groups instead of wandering across wherever, whenever, walking on the street, in the bike lanes. Who says you don’t need crossing guards once you have a high school situation?”

& Red Phone:

Red Phone feels your pain, good caller. Red Phone’s favorite is when the kids look at you as they walk out in front of your car as if to ask, ‘What are you doing driving on my street?’ Absent jay-walking tickets, Red Phone turned to city traffic engineer Don Dey who advised us that there are changes afoot because of a planned new bridge across Uvas Creek.

“As we look at construction, we know there will be impacts, and we will look at safety improvements down to Princevalle Street, which will result in other improvements along 10th Street. During the next three to six months we are looking at all the options to best provide safety in that area. A lot of issues going on in front of high school, which is what our study needs to resolve. I understand and have heard from a lot of people about traffic around GHS, which is why this needs to be a detailed study to see how we address all those multiple issues.”

Achtung, baby! Spell it right!

“I was going through the drive-through at Jack-in-the-Box by the truck stop earlier this week. It is supposed to be open 24 hours. But I saw this sign posted on the menu. It really confused me. It said ‘Sorry is closse.’ I was wondering why it was closse and also why it wasn’t open. I’m no language scholar, but fortunately the Internet is. The closse, uh closest, I could find was klosse, which means dumplings in German. And I don’t think they had added dumplings to their menu. It looked like they were doing some cleaaning or something and that was why they were closse.”

& Red Phone:

Well, good caller, Red Phone is amazed you went to so much trouble to address your confusion. Perhaps we can help. It is likely the sign was written by someone with a limited grasp of English, but that seems to be the point you are making. We hope, at least, you enjoyed your dumpling.
