159948~Home school students must comply—Dear Editor,
The following is a response to a recent column regarding home
schooling:
Interestingly, there is no exemption in the California Education
Code for

home schools.

In other words, education code does not recognize the term

home school

and therefore does not exempt students from compulsory
attendance if they are, in layperson’s terms, being home
schooled.
Parents who are homeschooling, you do not need to do this. Please read up on your rights and responsibilities as a homeschooler at:

The Gilroy school district has absolutely no right to “check” your private school. If they give you trouble, contact your local HS group, HSC and CHN.

Gilroy homeschoolers, don’t let this “professional” push you around. He has little knowledge of current education laws and his only power over any private school is self-appointed.

Good luck!

Tammy
