DEAR EDITOR:
I graduated from San Benito Junior College, now Gavilan College in 1960. I taught at Gavilan College from 1969 to 1999. I was fortunate to be a part of its growth and I am deeply grateful for the professional and personal opportunities it gave me all those years. That attachment to Gavilan gave me an understanding and appreciation for the positive institutional role it plays in the lives of its population. Its role will grow dramatically in the near future and so will its many challenges. That is why I strongly recommend a vote for the incumbents Laura Perry, Elvira Robinson and Luz Ortega.
Gavilan College has never had a more committed and talented Board of Trustees. They all possess a deep understanding of the college’s mission and the challenges the college will face in the near future. Their backgrounds are varied and they have demonstrated a deep commitment to the college. They bring a high level of professional skills to the board. Luz Ortega, a university administrator and with extensive experience at the community college is an expert on community college boards of trustees having written her doctoral dissertation on the subject. She also served on the Hollister High School Board. Laura Perry and Elvira Robinson have demonstrated these characteristics during their tenure on the board. We are all fortunate to have them serve.
Again, I strongly recommend you vote for Laura Perry, Elvira Robinson and Dr. Luz Ortega for the Gavilan Board of Trustees
