PREP ROUNDUP: CHS volleyball upends GHS

A hit by pitch to lead off the bottom of the eighth led the game-winning run as Skyline College handed Gavilan a 5-4 road loss in Coast Conference action Thursday.

The Rams (15-13 overall, 8-8 conference) have now dropped five one-run decisions this season.

Gavilan held a 4-1 lead after a two-run third and a 4-3 advantage until the bottom of the sixth.

Colby Lee booked two hits, Johnny Cox had a hit and two RBIs, and Tim Andrade, Brian Bradley, Julio Cortez and Lyell Marks registered one hit each. Starting pitcher Steven Crowell struck out four in six innings and received a no decision.

Gavilan is at Canada College on Saturday for a Noon start.

VOLLEYBALL

The Gilroy High boys varsity team swept host Seaside (25-16, 25-13, 25-18) on Thursday night to push its overall record to 16-11 and Tri-County Athletic League mark to 9-2.

Connor Escobar had 11 kills, Jonny Lester 10 kills, Greg Spellmen 23 assists, Lucas Gravell eight kills and three block kills and Troy Charvet had three aces.

• Christopher dropped a three-set match (25-18, 25-10 and 25-16) at Watsonville on Thursday.

BASEBALL

Christopher welcomed El Dorado High (Placerville) in non-league play Tuesday and lost 14-1.

NOTE

• There are no prep games slated for Friday.
