erratic driver?
“Some lady friends and mine ride on Tuesday mornings around Uvas and Chesbro lakes and two mornings now we’ve encountered the same woman driving a black Escalade and she’s driven around us very erratically and obviously does not like bikers, she’s obviously going to kill somebody someday. If anybody else has ran into this lady in a black Escalade please let the sheriff know, we’ve encountered her on Oak Glen Road making the turn toward Chesbro.”
Red Phone:
Driving without regard to others is no good. Red Phone would hope all Gilroy drivers would be kind enough to share the road. Red Phone contacted Lieutenant Dale Unger with the Santa Clara County Sheriffs Department. He said he has not heard of any similar complaints, but he will ask his sergeants about it.
“Here’s the thing, if she’s trying to scare them, that is considered reckless driving and it is against the law. If this is a chronic situation and this person is playing chicken with the cyclists, then we need to know,” Unger said.
Lt. Unger said he will pass the message on to the officers working the day shift and have them patrol check the area. He added that if you experience this again caller, or anyone else for that matter, get a license plate number and call 911 or the dispatch at 299-2311 for help.
streets to drive on but no parking
“Hi Red Phone, I would like to know why there was no parking downtown, on most of the street in the diagonal parking – the new parking – and I was wondering if there was going to be a time limit for the diagonal parking once the whole downtown is finished. I wanted to know if they are going to limit it to an hour because it seems to me that the folks that maybe work down there are taking up all the parking places and that’s not really good for business.”
Red Phone:
Contacted City Transportation Engineer Don Dey who said the issue concerning downtown parking and enforcement is under discussion. A meeting will be held 6:30 to 8pm, Wednesday in the city council chambers.
“The goal of the meeting is to look at how the businesses downtown would like to move forward with parking enforcement.”
There are two options right now Dey said. One is to create a parking time limit, the second would be to install parking meters as a method of controlling how long people can park in those areas.
Unfortunately there is no enforcement during the construction and Dey said many business owners don’t want to overreact just yet until construction is finished.
Dey added that attention and effort has been given to the downtown parking, The Downtown Parking Management Plan, is a parking study that was initiated last spring at the time construction began. The information gathered from the study and input from the area business owners and the council will continue to be collected so the city can wade through the data toward a definite solution, Dey said.
In the meantime good caller, check future issues for follow up on this and thanks for your call.
