Dear Editor,
Your excellent article about “toll roads” as part of America’s future confirms, once again, just how bankrupt our transportation policy has become.
Motorists being raped by our leaders would not need to pay tolls for using highways, bridges, tunnels or viaducts, if our leaders required transit riders to pay their own way.
Instead, our leaders’ bankrupt policy imposes 99 percent of the fully-allocated costs of public transit on the backs of motorists.
Instead of using gas taxes for highways, our leaders divert them to boondoggles moving empty seats most of the time and at overall costs more expensive than the Concorde Supersonic Transport.
It is time to end the wastefulness of Light Rail, Amtrak and Caltrain and bring an immediate halt to plans for ultra-socialist Bullet Train and return us to our free-enterprise, capitalist roots where self-sufficient people paid their own expenses, not demanding that their neighbors pay them.
