The Gilroy High School track and field shed was broken into and ransacked, leaving the team short of electronic equipment.

About 11:26 a.m. Saturday, a high school student body official saw that the padlocks on the shed doors had been broken, according to police and track and field Head Coach Jeff Myers. The burglar or burglars had taken a fridge valued at $100, a television, a printer, a laptop, a microphone used for the public address system, a combination television-radio and four walkie-talkies.

The shed is on the south side of the Garcia-Elder Sports Complex, at the end of the football field near a fence that separates the field from the levee that runs through the DeBell Uvas Creek Park Preserve in south Gilroy. The fridge was found dumped by the creek, according to police.

No track and field supplies, such as uniforms or javelins, were stolen, Myers said.
