Fate was similar on the girls side, and despite a school and personal record in the 100 from Haylee Peterson (13.84) and Kaelin Sylva’s 6-foot-6 pole vault, the team, too, fell shy103-23.*Head coach Jeff Myers said the effort was there and many of the athletes attempted events for the first time in competition.
Hill hit the track after his pole vault to anchor the 4X100 relay team to victory and Ettema’s school mark in the 100 was his first go-around in the sprint event. Peterson took second in her 200 debut.
The Cougars next dual meet is slated for Thursday at Seaside.
