Two men were hit by a car and left wounded in the middle of Monterey Street after leaving a nightclub, police said.
At 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Gilroy police responded to a reported collision on the 7900 block of Monterey Road and found a 28-year-old Castroville man lying in the center median. He was suffering from significant injuries but was conscious and breathing, police said. The second victim suffered minor cuts and scrapes.
A late model black Dodge Charger with a rear spoiler and damage to the left front end was traveling southbound on Monterey Street at an excessive speed when it hit the two victims, who were crossing the street. The car dragged the Castroville man several feet by the car, police said.
The man was airlifted to a trauma center and is expected to survive, police said.
The vehicle fled the scene and was last seen traveling westbound on First Street.
More information on this developing story will be posted throughout the day.
