Two shot in Gilroy weekend incident

No more information released in earlier shootings

Two men were shot Jan. 10 in Gilroy, a week after a man was killed and another was seriously injured by gunfire.

According to Gilroy Police, at about 11:50pm, officers heard shots fired in the area of Eighth and Hanna streets. At the same time, several callers reported gunshots in the same area.

When the officers arrived, they found evidence of a shooting but no suspects or victims were located, according to police.

Shortly after, a local hospital had two separate gunshot victims arrive at the emergency room.  One of the victims had life-threatening injuries and was transported to a trauma center, while the other victim is expected to recover, police said.

Anyone with information should contact Corporal Thomas Larkin at 408.846.0348. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call the Tip Line at 408.846.0330.

No more information is being released in the series of shootings taking place Jan. 1-3, as Gilroy Police Sgt. John Ballard said those incidents are being “aggressively investigated.”

According to police, a 35-year-old man was killed after he was shot on the 400 block of Fairview Drive on Jan. 3 at about 9:30pm. The victim, who has not been identified, was transported to a local trauma center where he was pronounced dead.

On Jan. 2, just before 9pm, Gilroy Police officers, Gilroy Fire personnel and medics responded to the intersection of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Mantelli Drive, where they found the driver of a vehicle who had been shot. The 21-year-old man was transported to a local trauma center and remains in critical condition, according to police.

The day before, officers found several vehicles had been struck by gunfire on Fairview Drive.

A GoFundMe page set up for the Jan. 2 shooting victim has raised more than $21,000 as of Jan. 11.
