Police arrested two suspects but have not found any victims after a shooting in south Morgan Hill.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the parking lot behind the Chevron gas station, 15865 Monterey Road about 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to Morgan Hill police Sgt. Jerry Neumayer. Two gunshots were reportedly heard by witnesses.
When police arrived no one involved in the shooting was at the scene, Neumayer said. Witnesses told police that two shooters fled the area in a tan Chevrolet Suburban at high speed, and a victim fled southbound from the gas station on foot.
Later police responded to a 911 call reporting a suspicious vehicle – apparently abandoned – at the end of Louis Holstrom Drive in unincorporated west Morgan Hill. The vehicle matched the description of that driven by the shooters, police said.
The vehicle was unoccupied, and police assisted by Santa Clara County sheriff’s deputies searched the surrounding area. They found two people hiding in vegetation about one mile from where the vehicle was located, and arrested them as the shooting suspects.
Arrested without incident were Juan Ceja, 21 of San Jose, and Isidro K. Zamora, 21 of Morgan Hill, Neumayer said. Both were booked into Santa Clara County jail on suspicion of various weapons-related offenses.
The shooting weapon, a .22-caliber handgun, has not been recovered, Neumayer said. Two shell casings were recovered from the area near the Chevron where the shooting happened.
The Suburban was registered to Ceja, police said.
Neumayer said up to two victims might have been targeted in the shooting, which police think is gang related. However, no victims have been identified, and police do not think anyone was shot.
Area hospitals have been notified of the incident in case a gunshot victim checks in for treatment, police said.
