Red Phone: Didn’t receive a county tax bill

"The reason I'm calling is to let people know about their taxes. I did not get my tax bill from the county. I got a phone call from someone who knew me. It was put in their envelope with their tax thing. I feel that this could happen to someone else in Gilroy and they should know about it and know who to call. Their phone number is 808-7900. It is the county's fault, not yours."

Seven reasons to spend less and save more

We can’t control bond yields, stock prices or inflation. But, there’s much we can control, including how much investment risk we take, how much we pay in investment costs, how we react to the market’s ups and downs and how much we spend and save.

Another time out to point out

Last Friday night's game between the Christopher and Monte Vista Christian football teams had the makings of a playoff collision. The hype preceded the 48-minute affair, and the play on the field validated the build up - a 20-18 victory for MVC, sealed with a touchdown with 19 seconds left in the fourth quarter to stay undefeated and at the same time knock the Cougars from the ranks of the unbeaten.

Bond between players is priceless

There's a bond, which is especially significant at the prep level, between those who don the same uniform. Football, tennis, water polo, baseball, it doesn't matter. Cross country, I think, is one of the best examples where teammates and team unity is profoundly evident.

Red Phone: ‘UFO’ could be a balloon

"On Sunday night, Oct. 9 about 11:30 p.m. I was sitting on my front porch off Carmel between Fourth and Fifth streets. While on the phone with a friend, I saw in the sky a reddish glowing sphere. It looked like a balloon with a candle attached. This object was really odd and got me wondering what can this be? The object in question then began to get closer and become more clear. It was a quiet night and I didn't hear any noise coming from the object. It was about 300 to 400 feet in the sky. I ran inside to get my mom and dad to check it out. My dad thought it was weird looking too. And as soon as we watched it for a few more moments, the object started to lift further into the sky and it started to 'sail' southeast still glowing red. I couldn't believe my eyes. Just wanted to get a response. Did anyone else in Gilroy see this? Please advise."

Red Phone: Noise cannons are a part of life

"I am replying to Red Phone about the noise cannons on Sept 27. I also live in the area near Roop Road and New Avenue. I have helped farmers in that area mainly with their cherry orchards. The noise cannons are a necessity if you ever have a cherry crop. I don't know if you aware of the cost to put up nets over 2,000 cherry trees.

Frys.com Open a success even before it began

To say the Frys.com Open was a rousing success last week, with Tiger Woods playing in front of a packed crowd down the street at CordeValle Golf Club, and Bryce Molder and Briny Baird exchanging paper cuts in a riveting six-hole, sudden-death playoff Sunday, would be inaccurate.

SAN MARTIN - Tiger Woods had a sea of spectators following his every move all week at CordeValle Golf Club, but the gallery saved its loudest roars for Bryce Molder and Briny Baird.
