Giants reap the benefits of perserverance and team chemistry
On a drizzly, dreary night little more than three years ago, the
All-Star game’s meaning transcends baseball
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - On Tuesday night, the lights will come on at Kauffman Stadium, and America's eyes will shift toward Kansas City for baseball's 83rd All-Star Game. It will be a moment to pause and enjoy the easiness of the summer and a night that signals a milepost in many of our lives.
Oh, she may look cute now, but …
From time to time, I do stupid things. Oh, they don’t sound stupid before I do them—but they end up stupid. Take the last month or so, for example. We decided to paint the outside of our house, which would be awesome, except we have No-no Lulu, the dog from hell. Basically, if you don’t live with her, she will bark at you. And bark at you. And bark at you. Until you are deaf or until you leave, whichever comes first.
Costco trip leads to revelation of safe’s unusual contents
Recently, my husband and I made a trip to Costco. It's not often that I take Harry to Costco. This is because Harry, normally The World's Cheapest Man, goes insane the minute he enters the store. If not restrained, he will spend every penny in the checking account. I'm not kidding. If you don't believe me, you should see our garage. We can't keep cars in it.
Mount Madonna School’s ‘Ramayana’ a Bright Mix of Talent, Costumes
John Thacher, grandson of Morgan Hill socialite Ramone Etchebarne, came home from his first year at New York University to attend an epic event put on by his alma mater, Mount Madonna School, last weekend: the Indian fairytale "Ramayana."
Sauv Blanc, Merlot and Chardonnay
We are so lucky to live in an area with more than 20 premium wineries - many are next door to each other and most within five miles of the other. The wines of Gilroy, Morgan Hill, San Martin and Hollister are not only winning awards, their tasting rooms are friendly and unpretentious.
Declutter and spark some joy
I don’t know about you, but I have a terrible affliction called “I never know when to throw something away.” You may know this affliction by its other name, “hoarding.” OK, look, before you get all grossed out, it’s not like you have to weave through piles of old newspapers to get into my house. I don’t have stacks of moldy books and magazines lining the hallways. Nobody opens a closet door and has a bunch of Christmas decorations come crashing down on them.
What’s Love Got to Do With It?
You've probably heard the old expression, "a tree is known by its fruit." In the Bible, Christians are likened to fruit trees, and we are taught the kind of fruit we should be bearing: "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control" (Galatians 5:22-23). In the coming weeks, we will look at what God calls the "fruit of the Spirit," noting those things God says come from a life that is going in the right direction.
