What’s the timeline on the Hecker Pass project?

I would appreciate an update on the Hecker Pass construction project. I remember an article in the Gilroy Dispatch last year before the three-year project began that gave a timeline of what was planned. Now that we're almost through this summer's portion of the work, I'm curious as to what to expect next. I should have saved that article so I could refer to it, but didn't think about it at the time.

Xeriscape: Homeowners convert lawns for rebates

When Gilroy residents Harry and Laurie Sontag made the decision to replace two-thirds of their lawn with pavers last spring, they were not aware of the lawn-replacement rebate offered by the Santa Clara Valley Water District. They just hoped to conserve water and create a larger space for hosting outdoor parties and watching movies on an outdoor screen. The project updated approximately 400 square feet of lawn and was completed in two weeks.

NFL: Tomsula: ‘Sad day’ for 49ers following Smith’s release

SANTA CLARA—The San Francisco 49ers released linebacker Aldon Smith from the team Friday, following his arrest Thursday night on hit and run, driving under the influence and vandalism charges, according to Santa Clara police.

Yes, we can defeat this big water fee hike!

The city of Gilroy is once again asking for more of our hard-earned money. This time the facade is repair and maintenance of water and wastewater systems. Could it just be a prime opportunity to ask for more money since residents are using less, water that is?

Healthstyles: Rethinking Photoshop

Recently, a friend who has a teenager brought up concerns about the prevalence of digitally enhanced, or Photoshopped, images in the media. Indeed, barely a day goes by without some celebrity or magazine causing a frenzy for publishing a picture that Photoshopped an already beautiful human being.

Gilroy couple renew vows in garlic wedding

Love is many things to different people. It has inspired countless tales, Shakespearean plays and many movies. For one Gilroy couple, love holds a truly unique and aromatic meaning: garlic. And in Gilroy, love and garlic go hand-in-hand. As the Gilroy Garlic Festival began to wind down Sunday afternoon, a large crowd gathered at the main stage to witness Tom and Stacy Davenport renew their wedding vows.

Curtain Up: ‘Matilda’ well done, fascinating

Children’s story writer Roald Dahl wrote “Matilda” in 1988. This is a story turned into a musical about an abused child who is gifted and handles the terrible neglect with an abundance of charm and an ability to “always make things right.”
