Q: Our vet told us that our dog only needs distemper and parvo vaccinations every three years. This is different than what we're used to. We always went in every year for distemper and parvo shots. What have you heard about this? Will Flip be safe with these new vaccines?

Warm weather and sunny days are finally here, so what better way

Would Cinco de Mayo be a day of much celebratory significance for Mexican-Americans if, back on May 5, 1862, more than 8,000 French men had invaded Mexico looking for low-end jobs such as picking produce or pruning hedges? Probably not.

On a recent visit to Southern California I saw once again the magnificent Mission Santa Barbara.  This building is so architecturally pleasing and set in such a lovely spot it known as "Queen of the Missions."

Just when it seemed like it might rain forever, the sun came out and the weather warmed up.

I kept myself pretty busy this past weekend by working a few of the wine events I had mentioned in previous columns. Even though I was tired after many hours of work, I consider myself lucky. I was exposed to great food, wine, and most importantly, the people that make it all happen. I poured so much wine, my hands were stained a violet red by the time it was all done.

Who do you regularly lie to? A few years ago a national survey asked that question and recorded the results in the book "The Day America Told The Truth." The results may surprise you: 86 percent of people polled admitted to lying regularly to their parents, 75 percent to friends, 61 percent to their boss, 73 percent to brothers and sisters, 59 percent to their children, and 69 percent admitted to lying regularly to their mates. I wonder what the statistics would have looked like if the book was called "The Day Hollister Told The Truth."
