Missing Gilroy teen Rayna Morellon, 15, whose disappearance last week sparked a major police search, has was found Saturday in San Jose.
Rayna Morellon, 15, walked off the Gilroy High School campus Thursday morning.
“A lot of man hours were put into the case,” said Gilroy Police Sgt. Pedro Espinoza.
Ultimately, Morellon was found by her parents, who called their daughter’s cell phone and tracked her movements on Facebook, according to Espinoza.
Morellon returned home Saturday with her parents.
Despite being questioned by GPD about where she had been for 48 hours since she went missing, said Sgt. Espinoza, Morellon didn’t want to provide officers with any answers.
“She has now been referred to local counseling services,” said Sgt. Espinoza.
At the time of Morellon’s disappearance, her mother Anna Lopez hinted that her daughter may have planned to leave. Morellon’s flat iron hair straightener was missing, she took a large handbag with her and her school books were hidden under a pile of dirty clothes.
“She’s never done anything like this,” said Lopez, who works for the Oak Grove Unified School District. “I drop her off and pick her up from school every day.”
Lopez has custody of her 15-year-old nephew, Marcus, who also attends GHS. She said Marcus saw Morellon leave the school grounds Thursday from the 10th Street exit area after being dropped off in the main parking lot.
“He just thought she was going to visit a friend,” said Lopez.
Lopez and her family have lived in Gilroy for 5 years.
