Police are still searching for multiple suspects involved in the gang-related stabbing of a 21-year-old Friday night.
The victim suffered multiple stab wounds and was flown to a trauma center. Police could not comment on his status, but immediately after the incident an officer on the scene said he believed the stab wounds would not prove to be fatal.
A “carload” of suspects shouted gang slogans and attacked the victim along the 7200 block of Monterey Street shortly after 7 p.m. Friday, according to police. After the fight broke up, acquaintances drove the hospitalized victim away, but it was unclear if anyone else was injured.
Officers arrived on Monterey Street after both sides had fled, but they received word shortly thereafter that the victim was outside the Taco Bell near the intersection of Chestnut and Tenth streets.
Several police and sheriffs units responded and closed the drive-through for a short time. At least one adult male in his 20s was taken into custody for questioning, police said, but no arrests had been made as of 5 p.m. Monday.
Police searched the bushes in front of Taco Bell for evidence and recovered some, but Sgt. Jim Gillio declined any description. Police did impound a mid-sized gray Honda Civic parked outside Taco Bell.
