Dear Editor,

I live in Gilroy and had noticed the vandalism on one of the large Bush/Cheney signs on Santa Teresa Boulevard. I have also heard of cars being vandalized, signs stolen from private property and, in other parts of the country, Republican party headquarters being shot up and trashed. While I cannot know for certain which party affiliation the local vandals have, the fact that Republican signs seem to be the target gives me a clue.

How sad. Is this going to be the governing philosophy of the majority party in California? The Democrats hold about a 3-to-2 registration advantage over the Republicans and yet there is still this kind of behavior against the minority party. Is the Democratic philosophy so pure and moral that it must exclude other thought? Can any act or word be used or said, without restraint, against fellow citizens and the majority party finds it to be an acceptable behavior? If so, we should all fear for our republic.

Don Veronda, Gilroy
