Lejeune, N.C.
Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Matthew P. Verrette and Lance Cpl. Salvador A. Reynaga are currently on a six-month deployment while assigned to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit based in Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Verrette is the son of Tamara J and Patrick C. Verrette of Gilroy and is a 1999 graduate of Gilroy High School. He joined the Marine Corps in July of 1999.

Reynaga is the son of Mary M. Gonzales of Gilroy and is a 1998 graduate of Gilroy High School. He joined the Marine Corps in December of 2000.

Volunteers for the two men’s unit recently participated in a humanitarian project in the U.S. Central Command Area of Responsibility during Operation Image Nautilus 2003.

An elementary school of six small buildings was renovated by the volunteers. Marines and sailors repaired broken doors and outfitted classrooms with new desks, chairs and bookshelves. Picnic tables also were installed in the outdoor courtyard and dining area.
