Police responded to several violent incidents over the weekend, involving both strangers and romantic partners. Here are a few events:
Bumming a cigarette turned bad
At 4 a.m. on Oct. 4, three men approached a victim at the intersection of Hanna Street and Ninth Street and asked for a cigarette. When the victim, a San Jose man, told them he did not have one, they allegedly began to push and shove him around before punching him in the face. The suspects allegedly made a couple gang slurs and patted down his pockets but did not take anything. The victim suffered from a broken nose and was treated at a local hospital.
Domestic violence arrest
Pete Arballo, 34 of Gilroy, was arrested for spousal abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, interfering with a 911 line and false imprisonment after he allegedly got into an argument with his girlfriend that turned physical at 4:57 a.m. on Oct 6. The victim reported that he punched her in the face several times and strangled her, and tried to prevent her from calling 911. She was taken to a local hospital, and Arballo was arrested at the 8500 block of Kern Avenue and taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
Motorcyclist flees from police
Police spotted a man riding a motorcycle without a helmet on Monterey Road at 2:29 p.m. on Oct. 6, who they recognized from prior arrests. When they attempted to stop him, he fled into the 900 block of Southside Drive. Based on previous contact with the suspect, police were able to identify who he was, but were not able to find him after he ditched his bike and fled on foot into a backyard at a labor camp.
Man arrested for assault and sexual acts with a minor
Eric Bueno, 34-year-old Gilroy man was in a fight with his 17-year-old girlfriend on Oct. 6 in his home on the 7300 block of Monterey Road when things got violent. His girlfriend came to police the following day to report that he grabbed her and threw her on the bed until she passed out. He was arrested that day for assault with a dangerous weapon, domestic violence and sexual acts with a minor, based on her report.
