on Thursday night.
The Gilroy High volleyball team advanced to the Tri-County Athletic League Tournament championship game and qualified for the Central Coast Section playoff bid with its 3-1 victory over Seaside on Thursday night.

The Mustangs, the No. 1-seed out of the Valley Division, took on the Spartans, No. 2 out of the Coastal, in the inaugural league championship tournament. GHS outlasted Seaside 25-12, 22-25, 25-19, 25-15 and will face Monterey for the league title tonight at 7 p.m. at Watsonville High School.

The Toreadors defeated San Benito in the tournament’s other pairing.

Dietrich Baumgartner recorded his seventh 20-plus kill match of the season, pacing the Mustangs with 22. A.J. Been connected for 14 kills and Robby Filice had six. Setting up the big hitter, Gavin Menges posted 49 assists. Troy Charvet led the way with 15 digs.

The Toreadors handed the Mustangs their lone league loss April 5, however the Mustangs were without Baumgartner in that meeting.
