Walter Wright

Walter Wright passed away peacefully on his ranch of 45 years. Walt was proud to be a life long resident of San Benito County.

e trained and raised horses his whole life. In his 20’s, he boxed and was an avid hunter. As a youth he rode broncs and went on to show horses. He sold, trained and taught hundreds of people how to ride over the years.

In the 50’s and 60’s he was a cattle rancher in San Benito County. Walt was a life long AQHA and NRCHA member,and he was a NRCHA board member. He was Stockhorse man of the year in 2002. In 2000, he was the NRCHA leading breeder of Reined Cow Horses. In 2009, his main Stallion “Smokum Oak” was inducted into the hall of fame. Member of the Cowboy Turtle Assn. Member of the Cattlemens Assn. Member of San Benito Saddle Horse Assn.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sharon, and children, Mitchell (Linda) Richard, Cecilia (Jim), Greg and Justin. He has 10 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, April 20th, 2011, at 1:00 P.M. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home in Hollister.
