Gilroy Elks Lodge Fashion Show 

Gilroy Elks Lodge will present its annual Fashion Show from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m March 10. Tickets are $30 and include a luncheon and door prizes. The annual event is a fundraiser for handicapped children. The theme is Denim and Diamonds. Tickets go on sale Feb. 20. Details: 847-9397.

South Valley Symphony spring concert 

South Valley Symphony will hold its spring concert at 4:30 p.m. March 10 at the Gavilan College Theater, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. The concert features young contestants under the direction of Al Navaroli. The box office opens at 4 p.m. Details: southvalleysymphony.org.

City of Gilroy hosts Kids Discover Art

 

Children, come one, come all to the Wheeler Community Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday for a free hands-on art event called Kids Discover Art sponsored by the City of Gilroy. Children ages 5 through 11 are welcome to try more than 20 different workshops during the festival-like atmosphere led by volunteer artists in the community. This event is free of charge. Workshops will explore: Caricature drawing, scrimshaw, hands-on clay, pastel impressions, charcoal drawing, creature collage, watercolor painting, paper-making, recycle art, cookie creations, quilling, design a stamp, Japanese origami, Suzuki violin, creative caps, beaded books, printmaking, curio craft frames and green thumb gardening. Wheeler Community Center is located at 250 W. Sixth Street.

  ‘Gleeful!’ comes to Morgan Hill

A localized spinoff on the hit TV series “Glee” – a full-length, feature film called “Gleeful!” that was filmed in South County and stars actors from Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Hollister and San Francisco – is hitting the big screen. “Gleeful!” is the brainchild of John Bisceglie, founder of the highly popular Gilroy Children’s Musical Theater. As Bisceglie’s first film, “Gleeful!” is a dance/singing extravaganza showcasing 170 actors between the ages of 5 and 25. “Gleeful!” will show at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. March 11, 25, April 1 and 22 at CineLux Theaters, located at 750 Tennant Station Way in Morgan Hill. The doors will open 30 minutes prior to showtime. Tickets are sold online or by phone only; no tickets will be sold at the door. The cost is $14.45 per person.

“Alone Together Again” dinner theater

Limelight Actors Theater presents its first show of the 2012 season, “Alone Together Again” at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through March 10 at the Gilroy Center for the Arts, 7341 Monterey St. The comedy  by Lawrence Roman is very funny, and at times poignant, offering an honest look at family – about aging parents, marriage and family relationships.
