Gilroy High baseball, finishing the season with a 17-13-1
record, came away with a Coach of the Year honor and two First Team
selections at the Tri-County Athletic League awards meeting held
after the regular season.
GILROY – Gilroy High baseball, finishing the season with a 17-13-1 record, came away with a Coach of the Year honor and two First Team selections at the Tri-County Athletic League awards meeting held after the regular season.
Cling Wheeler, managing his 10th and final season with the Mustangs, received coaching kudos, while junior outfielders Taylor Chris (.301 batting average, nine doubles and 17 RBI; 2-2 record, 1.74 ERA) and Jordan Holler (.411 batting average, eight doubles, 10 RBI) were placed on the TCAL’s First Team.
Catcher Lukas Fortino, shortstop Derek Engen and first baseman Eric Vegas were named to the TCAL Second Team.
Junior pitchers Michael Hartman and Max Fishler, as well as senior third baseman Roberto Celestino received honorable mention. Senior Josh Carter won the sportsmanship award for Gilroy.
The Mustangs ended the league season in third place and could return as many as 16 players from this past season’s club.
